imagine me

Carmelo Barrera Cruz

you may know my name

you don’t know My face,

not yet.

you may know my words,

you don’t know My face,

not yet.

you may know my art,

you don’t know My face,

not yet.

now, I’m going to paint

with my words.

imagine:

a skinny, 5’6 chaparrito

despelucada with hair to the base of the neck

caramel colored skin,

like toasted caramel right before it burns

I am una nepantlera

look past my deceiving woodbrown eyes

look at my serpent tongue

look at how I’m split in two, you’re staring at my fragmentations

look past your rose-colored glasses

I am a hybridization

of my ancestors

of my cultures

of my nationalities

of my Shadow and I

I am Human and inHuman

in the 3rd Space.
